My puppy throws up after eating. Is it fast drinking or serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 27 days old | 13 lbs

My pup tends to throw up...a lot! He does drink his water pretty fast, and his vomiting episodes only tend to happen after he’s eaten or drank. Could it be because he’s drinking his water too fast or is it something more serious that I should look into. Right now he just vomited a lot and only drank water and then had a treat. He also just got tested for internal parasites and it was negative.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I am sorry that Murphy is vomiting. I would be concerned about a few different problems including a persistent right aortic arch (PRAA), or a sliding hiatal hernia. These are congenital malformations that can cause vomiting/regurgitation especially after eating. I would try to get a video of the episodes to see if it is true vomiting vs. regurgitation as this will help narrow down possibilities. It is not normal for him to vomit that much. I hope you get it all sorted out soon! Best of luck with Murphy!
