My dog chewed Adaptil diffuser. Is it toxic? Do they need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Staffordshire Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 13 years and 9 months old | 13 lbs

I brought the adaptil plug in defuser for my dogs ready for fireworks and they have completely destroyed it by chewing it up out of the wall socket in there room within 3 hours even the plastic bottle the liquid was in. They seem okay in them selves. I have emailed adaptil to find out if its harmful to the dogs incase they have ingested any of the liquid but the said ask a vet. Surely they should know this. There only hazard advise was its harmful to humans. Do I need to get them to a vet ?

Unfortunately I can't find any information on whether or not Adaptil is harmful either. My feeling is that there is probably minimal concern, but it is hard to know how caustic or irritating the carrier agent for the Adaptil might be. I think your best bet would be to consult a toxicologist at animal poison control (link below). If they ingested any plastic there might be concern for an intestinal obstruction as well. https://vpisglobal.com/2016/08/23/vpis-public-helpline/?fbclid=IwAR0CGEq_sjr13iETVI4qKoGjRvRQZW95_AmROcN-aSVRMu_JpiLrVcSgtw8
