Dog won't let me treat ear infection. Can I apply medicine while asleep?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 50 lbs

My dog has an ear infection in both ears and will not let me administer ear cleanser or perscription ointment. She growls and runs away. I am afraid she is going to get worse before getting better. Can I try to put it in her ears while she is asleep? Or do you have any advice?

It is not a good idea to try and apply ear mediccine while she is asleep. I suggest you ask your vet whether a differen medication such as Osurnia, which can be applied in the vet's office once and is good for 7 days is not an alternative to struggling with your dog. If not, you may need to put a muzzle on your dog every time you intend to apply the medication.
