Why is my thoroughbred horse lazy, not eating, and only trotting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Farm Animal | Horse | Male | neutered | 7 years and 4 months old

My thoroughbred has been really lazy recently. He hasn’t been eating as much as usual, and when I try to ride him, he doesn’t go any faster than a trot.

It may not be that Beau is lazy, it could be that he is sick or injured keeping him from moving faster than a trot as well as causing a decrease in appetite. I would give his equine vet a call to come and see him in the next day or two. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
