Why is my pigeon's poop watery, formless, and has no urate?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Wild Bird | Female | unspayed | 0.441 lbs

Hi, I recently just adopted a pigeon. I understand that stress affects their poop so I was believing it was okay that she had runny poop for the first few days and it still had a form just slightly watered down. Then it started getting a better form now it’s hard and looks healthy. But recently she’s been getting really runny poops. Like when she poops there’s no urate and the poop is all watered down and has no form. I noticed this has been happening before she goes to bed and in the morning.

Thanks for reaching out about Pearl. The components of the droppings (feces, urates, urine) can vary during the day, due to diet, or other possibilities. The explained example sound like increased urine and less urates. This could be due to increased water consumption but possibly also due to renal disease. Some intestinal parasites can also modify how the intestines absorb water through the intestinal tract. If the problem persists, an visit to an avian veterinarian is recommended.
