Is 7-10 days too long to crate my kitten after neuter surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 3 months and 16 days old | 9 lbs

Just had my 4 month old kitten neutered at our local spay n neuter clinic. Was told to leave him in a crate for 7-10 days. They said surgery went fine, so wondering is a week to a week and a half a little long to keep him confined in a crate? Feel he will go nuts. Thank you.

Hello. Personally, I think this is a little long. I think this is just a generic recommendation for any surgery done at the neuter clinic. Feline neuters are generally well healed in a few days. As long as Bailey stays indoors I think he can stay out of his crate. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
