Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 2 years and 2 months old | 29 lbs

My dog Kenji pooped and on the side of her poop was a blood clot. She did this 2 times. It started yesterday. What can be causing this?

This can be from a mass in the rectum, irritation from pushing out hard stool, or she may have an anal infection causing the bleeding. If this continues I recommend a veterinary exam. They will check the anal sacs and palpate inside the rectum for a mass. Make sure the stool isn’t too firm. Adding fiber to the diet will bulk up the stool and make it easier to pass. I give canned pumpkin for a natural way to increase fiber in the diet. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Kenji.
