My Bengal cat is aggressive to other cats after going outside. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Bengal | Male | neutered | 2 years and 6 months old

I've had the same 4 cats for 2 years and since moving to a safer area I've allowed my Bengal cat outside as he's been so desperate and I thought now he'll be safe why not. But now whenever he comes back inside he does not get along with the other cats at all and constantly hissing and growling at the others. I'm wondering why he's all of a sudden doing this as he seems miserable when he's indoors. He's also lost some hair on his back and read that that could be stress. Not sure what to do!

It could be stress! I would recommend taking him to a vet to rule out any health issues, especially if the hair loss is enough to cause any balding on him. As for stress inside the house, adding in a pheromone diffuser such as Comfort Zone can help with inter-cat stress. Making sure everyone has access to their own food, water, litter, hiding spots, etc can also help decrease stress. If Dexter likes to go outside, but you are concerned about him being out there, I would also look into a catio. This is a patio that is completely screened in that usually attaches to a window or door and allows your cat to be outside/observe without wandering around and getting injured. It may be just the little nook he needs to relax!
