Why is my dog throwing up and eating blankets, toys, and wicker?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Male | neutered | 16 lbs

I found piles of throw up today and my dog has been eating a blanket, a cat toy, and wicker from my cat’s cat tree. He has never done this before.

Naughty Pepper! You will need to monitor Pepper for more vomiting, retching and diarrhea, just in case pepper has an intestinal blockage. Eating all those things could be caused by jealousy or often also by a tummy ache. This is called pica. For some strange reason Miniature Pinchers and Dobermans are notoriously known for eating blankets, socks, toys etc. Should Pepper start getting diarrhea and start retching and get lethargic, it is an emergency and he needs to be seen by a veterinarian for an exam.
