Why won't my teenage puppy listen to commands without repeating?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 7 months and 18 days old | 115 lbs

I know my puppy is in his teenage phase. I know that before i use to do basic commands and he automatically did it. But now i notice sometimes he does it automatically but then lately like tonight as i practice he stared at me and wouldn’t do it. And i kinda had to repeat myself multiple times with “sit” and he did it but i tried to time myself between repeating. But i don’t like repeating myself. I wanna get over this domiance hurdle I really need ACTUAL tips

The absolute best way to handle this is with a trainer to work with you and Bear. I would recommend a trainer that comes to your home to work with him. They will be able to really show you exactly what you can do to have Bear listen so you do not have to repeat yourself. Your veterinarian would be the best one to give you information on who is good in your area. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
