Why does my dog chew toys on me or put them in my lap? Is it play or dominance?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 7 months and 18 days old | 115 lbs

Why does my dog chew his toys on me or lays them in my lap ? Is it a sign of play? Someone told me it might be a sign of disrespect. But he lets me take the toy whenever i want out his mouth without excitement or aggression. He does this to everyone in the house. I was reading and saw it was for dominance? How can you tell a dog is dominant? He follows my every command, walks behind or beside me, listens when I say NO And he trusts me

If he lays the toys in your lap he probably wants to play. Chewing them on you may be a sign of disrespect. Dominance would be shown in that he would not listen to you, growl at you and not let you take away his food, stare at you, refuses to obey commands.
