Hello. I am so sorry for your pet's diagnosis. While there is a dose of Tramadol available for dogs, we have now learned that it is not a great drug for pain relief. It is often used here as a multi-modal approach to pain using Tramadol with an NSAID & Gabapentin. With severe pain, a fentanyl patch may be required. You really need to visit with your veterinarian to make sure your pet is as pain free as possible for the rest of his life. I wish all the best for your pet & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Poor Oscar! I would call the vet who prescribed him the tramadol to see how much he can have. Unfortunately, it's illegal for the experts at Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to give the dose information for any drug without seeing the animal in person first. I would not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given.

Tramadol can typically be even every 8-12 hours, but always speak to the prescribing vet before increasing the dose or frequency that Taylor is given. I'm sorry to hear that she is in pain! Her vet may also recommend a different pain medication in addition to the tramadol since this doesn't seem to be managing her pain sufficiently. I hope that all goes well!
