What is this red, raised, scabbed spot on my allergic dog's leg?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 1 year and 3 months old | 15 lbs

Ralph has general skin allergy issues related to his gluten allergy. He often gets itchy and has occasional fungal infections in between his toes. We cut gluten out of his diet and try to clean his paws with medicated wipes from the vet as often as possible. He had a red circle on his leg, recently it has become raised and is scabbed over and we are not sure if it is related to his allergy or something to be concerned about.

I am sorry to hear about Ralph! I would recommend bringin him into his vet for an examination. This could be a bacterial infection, a fungal infection (ringworm), or a growth such as a histiocytoma. It is large enough that I would not recommend treating it at home or waiting and seeing if it improves.
