My new kitten has no meow, sounds dry. Is she sick or normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 5 lbs

We adopted a beautiful black kitten Friday and I noticed right away that she has no “meow” it almost sounds like she’s got a “dry” throat but other than that she’s playful, friendly, super sweet, also she’s eating and drinking just fine as well

Midnight is absolutely beautiful! It could be that she is suffering from laryngitis, which is an inflammation of the mucous membranes of the larynx. Signs of laryngitis include hoarseness and/or loss of voice. It could also be that she's just a quiet cat who doesn't meow. I'd have her checked out by a vet this week just to be sure everything is ok. I hope this helps, and enjoy your new kitten!
