My Dachshund is in pain. Why is it worse when she poops or pees?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund miniature | Female | spayed | 3 years old

My 5 year old dachshund last Monday started having pain evertime i carried her. She's playful and jumps around alot from the couch. I guess it was an injury from that. I took her to the vet cause she was shaking and cry from the pain. The vet did a mini blood panel and everything came back normal , said no x-rays was needed, physical exam was normal too and they said it might be a soft tissue injury in her left leg and send her pain meds. Pain comes and goes but gets worse when she poop/pees why?

Thank you for contacting Pet Coach with your question about Chichi! When a dog pees or poops, they often lower their back end towards the ground. This will put extra pressure on the back legs, and that could be why the pain is worse when she poops and pees. Dachshunds are also prone to back problems, and that would also cause increased pain when peeing or pooping. If she isn't getting better, I would recommend taking her back into the vet and having an x-ray done on her spine just to make sure there isn't a problem there as well. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
