My 16-month-old Chihuahua's adult teeth haven't come in. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 5 months old | 3 lbs

My full blood Chihuahua was born April of 2017 very early, she was one of the 2 puppies who survived out of the 4. She is so small weighing only 3 pounds and all of her teeth haven't came in and she's 16 months old. Is this normal? What can I do about it ?

Chihuahuas can be quite small, and purebred Chihuahuas should not weigh more than 5.9lb. Reese's weight is normal, but it is not normal that all of her teeth haven't come in. She should have had all her adult teeth a long time ago (around 7-8 months of age). It could be she has retained baby teeth that are preventing the adult teeth from coming in, and she will need to see a vet. I would take her into a vet on Monday to get her mouth checked out. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
