My puppy has a swollen toe. Is it his toe nail or could it be something worse?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. I would have this looked at by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would recommend having x-rays taken of the toe to make sure the toe is not broken. If there is no broken bones, then I worry about a bacterial infection and he may need to be placed on oral antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.

Poor pup! It could be her toe is infected, she could have a foreign body under the skin, or she could have a fractured toe. I would take her into a vet right away if she cannot walk on it at all. It will be very painful for her, and the cause needs to be diagnosed so she can be treated. Do not give her any human pain medications, many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. The vet can prescribe safe pain medications for her if needed.

I would have Blue seen by the vet immediately. She could have injured her toe breaking it, leading to the bleeding and swelling. The vet can do x-rays to determine if her toe is broken, and treat her as necessary.
