Chihuahua has watery diarrhea after chewing. Is it an obstruction?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 2 years and 5 months old | 11 lbs

My 2 year old spayed female chihuahua just passed a formed piece of stool followed immediately by very watery diarrhea that is not bloody. I do not want to panic but I think she may be obstructed because she likes to chew on water bottles. The little piece of stool is in the puddle of diarrhea, we use pee pads in the house. I would like advice before I start to fully panic, it just happened about 20 minutes ago.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Panda! I wouldn't panic over diarrhea with no vomiting. Stomach or intestinal obstructions 90% of the time are just vomiting. Diarrhea, even with blood, isn't common with foreign body obstructions. I would fast her for 12 hours (water is ok) and then start a bland diet of boiled chicken with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 normal stools. If blood develops, she starts to vomit or refuses to eat she should see your Vet. Good luck!
