Pet's info: Bird | Lovebird | Male | 3 months and 16 days old | 1lb
On 9-11-18 my 3 month old lovebird was sleeping alot, and "one eye did not want to stay open" when she was moving around the cage. She looked normal, but slept alot that day. I let the bird out of the cage and let it run around, and held her. Eye still wanted to close. When I found it dead in the cage the next morning, it looked like a blood vessel in her eye must have broken. The eye was all red, and a little blood; feathers around bloody eye were sticky. Any ideas on what caused this?

Unfortunately, it would be pretty hard to tell. Birds are masters at hiding any illness before it's too late. It's possible the eye was infected and the infection spread to the body, there was an injury that caused bleeding somewhere, or there was another unrelated illness causing the problem. If you had a vet that was seeing Pretty Bird, they may be better able to give you some answers. If you're having trouble coping with your loss, seeing if your vet offers any grief counseling services, or checking out a site such as The Rainbow Bridge where you can make an online memorial or talk with other pet owners may help provide you with some peace of mind.
