My dog has adrenal mass & hyperplasia. Fatal? Wait or second opinion?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed

My dog has vaginal hyperplasia and a mass in her adrenal glands. Is this fatal? I took her to the doctor but he didn't give me answers just said we had to wait on blood work. I really want to get her treated as soon as possible. Should I wait or seek a second opinion?

Hello. I would wait on the blood work, but it is never a bad idea to obtain a second opinion if you think it is necessary. Spaying GiGi should resolve the vaginal hyperplasia, & medications may control the symptoms associated with the adrenal tumor. If possible, the adrenal gland with the tumor can removed, but this can be a bit of a tricky surgery. This would depend on GiGi's overall health, chest x-rays to make sure the tumor has not spread to the lungs & the availability of a surgeon comfortable doing this surgery. Wait for the blood work & then talk to your vet about all your options. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
