My dog died after spay surgery. Was it due to complications?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Female | spayed

I had a female pug, whose bleeding/periods were abnormal. For the past few months she really wasn't keeping well, could'nt walk or eat. The vet said that she needs to get her uterus removed immediately. And the operation went well even though she woke up in the middle of the surgery and had to be sedated again. And the next day she past away because of a cardiac arrest. Is this possible?

Hello. I am so sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, it sounds like more was going on with your pet than abnormal heat cycles, & it was just poor veterinary care that she woke up in the middle of surgery & needed to be sedated again. Stress & pain may have contributed to her death, but there may have been some other underlying heart disease or cancer present that was just too much for her to recover from. Please accept my condolences on your loss.
