Why does my dog poop twice, first solid then runny? Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 85 lbs

When Wallace goes #2, he usually goes twice. Once when I get home and it’s solid. Then again maybe 20 minutes later on our walk and that’s runny. He acts normal and everything and it’s been like this forever. It that normal? Any suggestions?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is possible that this is related to his diet and is dietary indiscretion. I would recommend switching to a different brand / formula of food and also consider adding in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora. If this continues despite a change in diet and the addition of a probiotic, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Wallace so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
