My dog has a purple blister on his eyelid. Is it from scratching?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Male | neutered | 3 years and 7 months old | 60 lbs

He cried out when scratching. We noticed this purple blood blister on his eyelid. Don’t know if it was already there or if the scratching caused this. It is really red around the purple bump. You might have to zoom in to see the bump.

I am sorry to hear about Jack! It certainly looks like something that could be caused by scratching. I would recommend monitoring it closely and applying cold compresses to the area. If he still seems to want to scratch at the eye or bother it then he may need an e-collar to prevent further trauma to the eye. If it is not improving or is worsening a visit to the vet is recommended to examine the area. Unfortunately being so close to the eye we do not recommend applying any over the counter topical medication as it could get into the eye. The vet can pesrscribe special medication safe to use around the eye if needed.
