Dog's face breaks out with bumps after wet grass. Is it an allergy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 1 year old | 79 lbs

I don't know if you can see in the picture or not after I take my dog outside especially in the morning when the grass is still wet after we come back in side I've noticed that his face seems to break out he gets these little bumps on his chin and upper face it usually only seems to happen when the grass is wet and when this happens I will wash his face off with a wash cloth and water and it goes away I was wondering why this is happening and should I be concerned and am I doing the right thing

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Hercules. He may be experiencing an allergic reaction to something in the wet grass. Wiping his muzzle with a cool damp rag will soothe the skin and help to physically remove any allergen still present on his skin. I would try to avoid wet grass whenever possible and see if this helps. If this is not possible or his reaction worsens over time, then he will need to see his veterinarian. Antihistamines such as Benadryl can help, but are generally not very effective. There are prescription allergy medications for dogs that work very well. I hope this information helps!
