My dog is licking his neuter incision with a cone. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 7 months and 12 days old | 115 lbs

My dog has a cone on but he could still lick and reach his little stitches do they look okay? He just got fixed yesterday but i don’t want anything to go wrong and I’m hoping in his crate he can’t lick it

I am sorry to hear about your concern for Bear! The incision looks mildly inflammed, so I would definitely keep an eye on it, if it becomes more inflammed/red or develops discharge then definitely let his vet know. You can also let them know that the e-collar is too short and your vet can get a longer collar. If you happen to have a small pair of shorts or a baby onesie to put on Bear for the night to try to stop him from getting the sutures then you can place on on him until you get a longer e-collar.
