My neutered senior dog gained weight. Is this normal? How to help?

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 10 years and 8 months old | 14 lbs

10 yr old male yorkie neutered in July, now is not as active, more needy and gained weight. Is this normal? How do i help him lose a few lbs. He is now about 15 lbs from 10

Hello. It is possible that the neutering has slowed Jack's metabolism allowing the weight gain. Feeding less, increasing his exercise, switching to a senior diet, or weight reduction diet will all help him to feel better & lose weight. But also consider having Jack examined by your veterinarian. Some metabolic conditions common in older pets, such as hypothyroidism may be at play here. I hope he is feeling better soon.
