My dog has cystitis. How can I help her urinate more often naturally?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female | spayed | 1 year and 5 months old | 60 lbs

How does one get a dog ( Siberian Husky) ( 1 year & 6 mos. old) to urinate more often? She’s under the Vets care, & they say she has cystitis. I think she holds Urine because it hurts. She’s starting on a prescription dog food for a month & hopefully that helps. Anything natural I can do to help?

Walking often will help Luna urinate more frequently. Increase water intake by using wet food or water added to dry food, using a pet fountain, playing outside in a sprinkler, etc. Urinary diets are good for increasing urination as well. If you think Luna is uncomfortable urinating, talk to your vet about a prescription anti-inflammatory to help with discomfort. Unfortunately, human supplements like cranberry juice don't seem to help much in dogs.
