Why is my dog breathing hard, looking up, after tick bites?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature American Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 30 lbs

My dog is breathing very heavily and rapidly like it’s hard for him to breathe. He was bitten by two ticks a while ago and they were taken out. He keeps looking up while he is breathing also. I attached a picture

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Respiratory signs like that can be a sign of many conditions such as pneumonia, bronchitis, heart disease, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Cooper evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include thoracic radiographs and bloodwork. Treatment would be dependent on findings. Good luck and have a good night!
