My dog is shaking and has low energy after grooming. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog was groomed on Sunday and shaved all the way down due to matting behind her ear and under her leg. Ever since she was shaved she’s been with low energy and when she wakes up and sleeps she is shaking. Sometimes she’ll just be sitting down and shaking. I’m worried that this grooming was too much for her or that there’s something seriously wrong.

Hello. You did not indicate an age or breed for your pet. This information may be helpful. Grooming can exacerbate arthritis or other underlying painful conditions like a back problem. Even if there were no indications of a problem before, this may cause the symptoms to show up. Obviously this would be more likely in a middle aged to older animal. Make sure there are no obvious skin lesions which could be painful. It may be a good idea to have your vet examine her and determine if she is in fact painful and prescribe the appropriate antiinflammatory medication for a few days.
