Is it safe for my dog to eat grass sprayed with weed killer?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 11 months old | 18.8 lbs

The weeds in my garden were sprayed with weed killer spray. Do I need to keep my dog inside? Do I need to be concerned if my dog accidentally eats grass that has weed killer residue on it?

Hello. In general, once the spray has dried, it should be safe to let your pet back into the garden. I would, however, try to limit any ingestion of the treated grasses. Casual contact with the dried product should be fine, but ingestion should be discouraged. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
