My ferret won't eat, is scratching, and losing hair. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Ferret | Male | neutered | 1 year old

My Male ferret won't eat like he's supposed to. He basically only eats when I put stuff on his food that tricks him into eating. He is also itching and losing fur a little as well. Should I be worried?

I am sorry to hear about Slider! I would recommend bringing him into the vet for examination with these symptoms. Though he is young we do worry about Adrenal gland disease in ferrets with hair loss and decreased appetite https://www.petcoach.co/article/adrenal-gland-disease/ . We can also have things like external parasites, allergies, and nutrition issues cause hair loss https://www.petcoach.co/article/causes-of-scratching-licking-in-ferrets/
