My puppy's eyes are always crusty with slimy discharge. What's wrong?

My puppy's eyes are always producing a slimy discharge (goes crusty if left) and I was wondering if there was a way to stop it, without taking him to the vets? Have tried warm salted water to get rid of it, but it keeps happening. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 20 days old | 15 lbs

That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well.
