How cold is too cold for a kitten living outside? Will she get sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female

Dear Doctor, It has gotten really cold this days here with rains and poor Holly had to stay in the shower room all day long which is a small humid warm room outside of the house. It is quite dry there in some parts. She is not allowed in the house. It is 9 celsius outside. Is it very cold for the kitten and could she become ill?

That is quite cold for a kitten if they aren't used to it. I would recommend that you make a cozy nesting box so she has a place to stay dry and warm. Cold alone shouldn't cause illness, but it can result in lethargy and anorexia.
