My dog loves fruit. Which fruits are safe for dogs, like apple or kiwi?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi. I've just read your "top 10 vegetables to give dogs " but what about fruit? I have two shih Tzu who seem to enjoy pretty much anything. I know not to give them grapes. Is it ok that they like pineapple, cantaloupe melon, strawberries, kiwi, apple and satsumas??

You can give your dog apple slices, banana, blueberries, cantaloupe, cranberries, mango, orange, peach, pear, pineapple, raspberries, strawberries, watermelon. Kiwi fruit is ok, but remove the skin as it can be an irritant. Make sure you either peel or wash the fruits before giving them as a snack or a treat.

I would recommend staying away from fruits with dogs. They are high in sugar and can cause intestinal upset like vomiting and diarrhea. Even though most fruits are not toxic they can still make Charlie sick. I would stick to well balanced dog food and treat. hope that helps
