My dog has yellow eye discharge and watery eyes. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year old | 40 lbs

Hey, my dog Oreo has yellowish discharge coming from his eyes. His eyes are watery but I don't see any type of pink eye. He is pretty normal. He's still playing, he is active and very healthy. Is this normal for him to have yellow discharge and around his eyes to be watery? I would upload photos but it will be hard to see.

Eyes should not have a discharge at all. You can carefully wipe off the discharge with a warm moist paper towel. If the discharge returns, or your dog starts squinting or if the eyes get red or swollen you will need to have your veterinarian give your dog an exam as there may be an infection needing antibiotic treatment.
