My dog missed his hyperthyroidism medicine for 10 days. Is he okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 12 years and 5 months old | 50 lbs

My 12 year old male German shepherd dog was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and the vet started thyroxin 50 on empty stomach every day. Well, I was out of town for 10days and my dad who was taking care of the dog forgot to give him the medicine. Just wanted to know whether the gap will harm my dog? He seems perfectly healthy otherwise

While not ideal, not getting thyroid medication for 10 days should have no lasting negative effects on your dog. A quick call to your vet would be recommended for confirmation. He or she may want to see Morris and possibly submit blood work to check thyroid levels.
