My dog ate grease, is throwing up bile, and won't eat. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | unneutered | 10 years and 3 months old | 85 lbs

our 10 year old golden retriever ate a large amount of fat/grease Thursday night (grease from a beef meatloaf pan) and started throwing up Saturday morning. He seemed to eat and drink normally Friday and drank normally Saturday but hasn’t eaten since Friday. He’s thrown up at least 7 times - water/bile but no food.

I guarantee you Buddy has pancreatitis. This can be life threatening. Please get him to the vet ASAP for treatment. This is not likely to resolve on it's own. ( https://www.petcoach.co/article/pancreatitis-inflammation-in-dogs/ ) Best wishes.
