My dog struggles to bite, and his jaw misaligns. What's the issue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 5 years and 10 months old | 13 lbs

Dog is having issues biting down on one side of his mouth. He seems to be straining to bite down and when he does, his lower jaw becomes misaligned. He is currently on Clindamycin and Galliprant for a sprained toe. He was chewing on a nylabone prior to the issue starting.

It's highly likely to be a teeth problem, either something stuck in his gums causing an inflammation or a bad tooth that needs to be removed, you will need to take him to the vet ASAP (it can wait for tomorrow) in order to get it checked and treated, bring him to the vet fasting (8 hours) in case they need to sedate him to the check the oral cavity or do a dental procedure.
