My older dog has spreading skin growths. Should I be concerned?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 14 years and 4 months old

Our dog is due for her annual shots. She's a 14 year old Cheweenie. A couple of years ago , she began getting lesions which the vet said were benign. Within the last 6 months, they have appeared in several other places. Now, we're not sure he was right. Although he has seen them since they've started to appear in other places, he continues to say, "Don't worry about it?" Should we be concerned?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Diamond. The skin mass on the leg in the picture you submitted appears to be a wart like growth. These are common in older dogs and more tend to appear over time. If this is the growth you are referring to, then they are typically not anything to worry about. The only time I consider surgically removing such a mass is if it bleeds or becomes infected. I hope this information helps!
