My dog is lethargic on Prednisone for IBD. Can I reduce his dose?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 7 years and 11 months old | 73 lbs

Hi. I am giving my dog 33 kg. weight, 60 mg/day (from this past Monday, ie 4 days) of Prednisone due to his IBD plasmocyte lymphoplasmic moderate level. The point is that he is very lethargic and weak and he is not tolerating Pred. well and I would like to reduce the dose. What would be the plan of action? I know it's done gradually but I'd like you to tell me the dosage. Thank you

We are not in a position to change or reduce dosage prescribed by your treating vet and you should contact your vets office to advise. It is likely they will half the frequency every few weeks until he is more stable but this must only be done under direction from your vet
