My dog has bursting bubbles under skin with pus and blood. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 6 years old | 43 lbs

My dog has what look like bubbles under her skin on her body and legs. They burst open when pressure is applied. Bloody and some pus inside. My vet doesn’t know what this is!? She also has fleas, but this is not a normal reaction to fleas.

Oh my. This looks like I pretty bag staph infection. Your vet needs to do a culture of your pets skin to confirm what antibiotic will work to heal this. Otherwise you will likely see some resistance with whatever antibiotic you choose. Your vet also may want to do a biopsy of the skin to rule out skin cancer. I hope that Oreo heals from this nasty skin infection soon! Best wishes and take care.
