My dog bit a new dog. How to introduce aggressive dogs safely?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered | 5 lbs

I am trying to introduce Jacinto to my partner's dog ( 5 yr old male pit bull ) and Jacinto is very aggressive and seemingly territorial. I thought he just wanted to play at first, but when I finally let him go, Jaci ran at the new dog and bit his foot. There are no pet behavior specialists near me that I know of, or that appear in an online search. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on how to promote these dogs acclimating to one another. Thanks!

Walking them in neutral areas away from his normal routine and territory can help to get dogs used to each other in a less confrontational manner and can help in such cases, I would recommend muzzling both before allowing free play to prevent injury initially. Do not leave them unsupervised or loose until they are more accepting of each other
