Why is my dog scratching and having bad poop on new dry food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 7 months and 6 days old | 115 lbs

My dog is on a bland diet due to him not eating because me and vet thought maybe he had a food allergy and him losing too much weight. Well everything is going good till i started adding his new dry food in.. and his poop looked like the first picture. The dry food (the last picture Royal Canin) i was adding it to the bland diet food. But it’s like when i add it he starts scratching and chewing and since he chews he eats his hair which is what happens in the second picture hair in his poop help!

It does sound like this particular dry food may be triggering a reaction and it would be worthwhile contacting your vets office and advising them of the progress. There are many sensitive and hydrolyzed diets available and it can take time to find the most appropriate option
