My dog swallowed an orange piece. Is loose stool a sign of trouble?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Female | spayed | 7 months and 23 days old | 36 lbs

My 8 month old standard poodle - Coco swallowed an orange piece (as pic) at dog park yesterday afternoon around 2:35, she seemed fine until 4:15ish as she was trying to throw up; I tried to poke her throat to help her but nothing came out. Anyway, Coco seems fine last night, she drank fine, ate fine, slept fine; her poop today (quantity is normal, but 1/3 of it was loose, not liquid) and that orange piece wasn’t out. What should I do now? Thanks a whole lot. Should I take her to vet ASAP?

I am not sure if by "orange piece" you mean a piece of the fruit orange or something else. If it was a piece of orange, then I would not worry. However if it was something solid and orange colored, it should come out with the stool within two days. If not, and if your dog gets diarrhea and starts to vomit, you need to take Coco to a vet for an exam as it could have caused an intestinal blockage.
