Is my Chihuahua's bald snout spot mange or walking dandruff?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered | 5 lbs

Hi! I noticed this bald spot on my chihuahuas snout yesterday. I fear it may be mange. He has no other spots and isn’t scratching. Between his eyes seems to be dandruff, and though I’ve been watching and trying to see them to no avail, I’m afraid it might be what’s called walking dandruff. Thank you for any advice and for your time!!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Jacinto. He will need to see his veterinarian to determine the cause of the bald spot. Skin tests are typically performed to determine if there are mites (mange and walking dandruff are examples) or even ringworm. To assess for mites, samples are collected and evaluated under the microscope. Ringworm is usually diagnosed by a fungal culture. I hope this information helps!
