My dog has white spots on his lip after kennel. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 10 months old | 55 lbs

Just picked up my dog from a kennel he was there for 2 nights. An Australian Shepard mix who’s about 2 years old. Just noticed he has those two puusy looking spots on eacl sides of his upper lip. Their a whitish yellow, almost looks like a zit. Kind of worried I read about puppy acne and the Canine oral papillomas warts, but don’t know exactly what to think or if I should bring him to the vet.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Cooter! From your pictures it looks like a superficial bacterial infection. It doesn't look like viral papilloma. The infection could be from excessive panting and drooling that caused extra moisture. I would consider a Vet exam as the lips look a bit swollen too? The area should be shaved and cleaned. Oral antibiotics and a topical ointment likely needs to be prescribed. He will ultimately be fine though! I wish Cooter a speedy recovery!
