My cat cut his tongue and won't eat dry food. Is a vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 8 years and 5 months old | 16 lbs

My cat cut his tongue on the side of the tongue. It's not a real bad gash, but it's moderately broken the skin. He's eating wet food OK but doesn't want dry food. I think it happened yesterday.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Pappy! I would have the Vet take a look to see if the wound needs to be stitched up and be sure it isn't a growth. It will likely heal faster with an antibiotic. Wounds in the mouth do tend to heal quickly. Good luck!
