Why is my dog only affectionate to me? How can he bond with my mom?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund miniature | Male | neutered | 2 years and 4 months old | 8 lbs

I purchased a 2 year old dachshund from a breeder 2 months ago. He was very affectionate to both my mom and myself for the first 5 weeks but lately he has started being very clingy to me and not my mom. He only wants to sit with me on the couch and he pushes away from my mom when she tries to hold him. What can we do to get him to be more interested and affectionate to my mom? Thank you for your help

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Dogs are thankfully all about treats and affection. I would recommend that you consider having your mom give him treats and as much affection as possible. Usually with treats he will most likely get to like her company more and more. This will likely help. Good luck!
