My dog's dew claw was clipped too short and bled. Will he be okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 7 years and 9 months old | 18 lbs

My roommate decided to clip my dogs dew claws and he struggled so much that she ended up clipping it almost entirely off. He bled a lot but I finally got it to stop. When it first happened he went crazy if I touched his foot now a while later he lets me touch it and take photos. Attached is bloody before and after. I put neosporin on it and wrapped it. Gauze has fallen off now but the bleeding has stopped. Will he be okay? I have work in am and worried about leaving. 2nd photo is recent.

Hi, The most important thing is that it clotted and the bleeding stopped. He should be fine and the nail will GROW. Just monitor the area so it clean and no signs of infection such as pus, swelling, redness and prevent the dog from licking/biting or bothered with the toe in case he start doing it
