My dog's neck is suddenly swollen near the glands. What should I do?

My 12 year old Jack Russell has all of a sudden got a swollen neck around the gland area. What has caused this and what do I do. Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Male | neutered | 11 years and 7 months old | 16 lbs
